Schools in Santa Rosa, Okaloosa counties to remain open Friday

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. -- Okaloosa County and Santa Rosa County schools will remain open Friday despite the potential for winter weather along the Gulf Coast.

This comes as the Escambia County School District cancelled all classes Friday due to the weather.
The Okaloosa County School District issued this statement Thursday afternoon:
We have been in contact with Okaloosa County Emergency Management about tomorrow's weather forecast. Schools will be open and students are encouraged to dress for cold temperatures. PE classes and outdoor activities will follow cold weather guidelines.
Meanwhile, the Santa Rosa County School District issued this release on Thursday:
Superintendent Dr. Karen Barber district has been in communication with Mobile Weather and Santa Rosa County Emergency Management concerning the most current forecast regarding weather that we may experience starting late tonight through early tomorrow morning in Santa Rosa County, and currently see no reason to make any changes to tomorrow’s school schedule. Families are encouraged to monitor local TV, radio, and communication from the district should there be a change in current forecasted information.
Channel 3 reported a wintry mix and freezing rain is possible late Thursday night and Friday morning along the Gulf Coast.
The National Weather Service in Mobile has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for all of Escambia County, Florida effective until noon on Friday.
