Penn Yan Man Accused of Slashing Tires on Car

A 41-year-old Shortsville man was arrested Monday night by Penn Yan Police on criminal contempt and aggravated family offense charges. Chancler Simpson is accused of having contact with a Penn Yan village resident at a local business in violation of the terms of an order of protection. Simpson was arrested in Shortsville and turned over to officers of the Penn Yan Police Department.

A Keuka Park man has been arrested after police say he was allegedly caught stealing items from a local business. 30-year-old Ryan Fitzpatrick is accused of stealing undisclosed items from JR’s Garage in Penn Yan late Friday afternoon. Fitzpatrick was released on an appearance ticket for Torrey Town Court.

A Canandaigua woman was arrested Monday morning on a warrant issued out of Lyons Town Court. Katherine Beesley is accused of failing to appear on charges that stem from a domestic incident in 2020 where she was arrested and charged with criminal contempt after allegedly violating an order of protection that was placed against her. It is alleged Beesley has missed numerous court appearances and as a result, a bench warrant was issued out of Lyons Town Court for failing to appear.

A 47-year-old Geneva man who allegedly drove his car into a tree in the area of North Main Street in the city has been charged with felony drunk driving. Police say the charge against Allan Murray is a felony because he had a prior DWI charge within the last ten years. No injuries were reported.

A Canandaigua woman faces multiple charges after police said she fled the scene of a two-car property damage accident in the village of Penn Yan Friday. After police located the vehicle involved, they determined Jennifer Race was driving on an alleged suspended license for failure to answer a summons out of the City of Canandaigua. She was also found to be driving without insurance.

A traffic stop in the city of Geneva Sunday resulted in the arrest of a 57-year-old Geneva man. Nicky Phillps was allegedly found in possession of a quantity of cocaine, methamphetamine, and a sum of U.S. currency after being pulled over on South Main Street. Phillips was charged with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance along with vehicle and traffic violations.

A 17-year-old was listed in stable condition at Strong Memorial Hospital after being stabbed at the Speedway Gas Station in Palmyra. State Police say the teen allegedly got into a physical altercation with 32-year-old Martin Hillenbrand about Hillenbrand allegedly leaving his two children, a three-year-old and 10-month-old, alone in his car Saturday night. After a brief scuffle, Hillenbrand produced a folding knife and stabbed the teen in the thigh and abdomen.

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office released the following information in relation to the Love’s Travel Plaza incident from May 3rd:. On May 3, 2022, at about 5:33 am, Seneca County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Love’s Travel Plaza located at 1262 Route 414 in the Town of Tyre for the report of several fires inside the building. Upon the arrival of Sheriff’s Deputies, a male and female were taken into custody for allegedly causing the fires and attempting to light a one-year-old child on fire. A second child, four years old, was located in the cab of a tractor-trailer in the parking lot of the business. The second child had apparent head injuries. Both children were transported to Geneva General Hospital by North Seneca Ambulance. The four-year-old child was later transported to Strong Memorial Hospital by LifeNet Air Ambulance. Both children have since been released from medical treatment and are expected to make full recoveries.

The Geneva woman responsible for a standoff with police that lasted more than five hours has been charged with two felonies. Police responded to a Pulteney Street residence last Monday night for a reported domestic incident between a man and a woman. 44-year-old Glenda Pelham is accused of shooting off a firearm inside of the house. Following numerous attempts by police to make contact with Pelham, she eventually surrendered after Ontario County SWAT responded. Pelham was taken to Clifton Springs Hospital for mental health treatment.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of an Ontario man following an investigation into a domestic incident that occurred in the Town of Ontario. Deputies arrested Corey W. Desbrough, 27, of Cortland Drive in the Town of Ontario for 1 Count of Criminal Contempt in the 2nd Degree, and 2 Counts of Criminal Mischief in the 4th Degree. The charges stem from an investigation into a domestic incident in the Town of Ontario where it is alleged that Desbrough had damaged property that belonged to another person during a brief physical altercation where he grabbed a cell phone from the female victim’s hands while she was attempting to dial 911 for police assistance. The amount of damage was approximately $150 according to the victim. Desbrough was then transported to the Wayne County Jail where he awaits CAP arraignment before the presiding Judge.

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office reports the Thursday arrest of Anthony Curran in the Town of Canandaigua in connection to a May 2nd Incident. It is alleged that Curran and Randolph Allie punched and kicked another man at Candlewood Apartments. Allie was arrested later at the Ontario County Jail where he was being held on separate charges.

A stabbing in Cayuga County has led to the arrest of a 17 year old. State Police say they responded to Bonta Bridge Road in Meridian around 10:45p, Friday where an investigation found a group of teens got into an altercation with Sean Broadwell and his brother. The 17 year old suspect then took out a large knife and struck Broadwell, causing a large laceration.

A 30-year-old Penn Yan man was charged with a felony count of attempted assault following the report of a physical altercation that occurred on Clinton Street in the village. Edward Judy allegedly verbally threatened, physically menaced, and attempted to strike the property’s 76-year-old landlord after he was ordered off the property. Police say since the victim is over 65 years old and Judy is more than 10-years younger, he was charged with a felony.
