The incident happened just after midnight Tuesday at the corner of 77th Street and 37th Road in the Jackson Heights neighborhood.

Video showed two suspects lingering near the 43-year-old victim on the sidewalk before one suddenly approached from behind and punched the man in the head.

Authorities said the victim was knocked unconscious and while on the ground, the thieves rifled through his backpack and pockets, stealing his wallet, which contained $70 in cash and multiple credit cards, along with a Samsung cell phone.

The two then fled the scene on foot, police said.
