Janai Brugger, Susan Graham, Nicole Cabell, Christine Goerke Headline Tanglewood Festival’s 2022 Season

The Tanglewood Festival has announced its 2022 season, which will be its first full schedule since 2019.

For the purposes of this article, our focus will be on vocal and operatic performances.

Tenor Paul Appleby will team up with Emanuel Ax for a recital in Ozawa Hall featuring music by Janacek and Dvorak. The performance will also feature the Lorelei Ensemble and Dover Quartet.

Performance Date: July 7, 2022

Soprano Nicole Cabell will take the stage with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in a performance featuring music by Barber, Ellington, Carlos Simon, and Gershwin. Andris Nelsons conducts with pianist Aaron Diehl also on the program.

Performance Date: July 9, 2022

Andris Nelsons will lead a concert featuring highlights from “Don Giovanni” with Nicole Cabell, Janai Brugger, Amitai Pati, Ryan McKinney, Will Liverman, Alfred Walker, and Ryan Speedo Green. The Tanglewood Festival Chorus and Boston Symphony Orchestra will also headline the program.

Performance Date: July 16, 2022

Susan Graham will be featured in a program with music by Jalbert, Copland, Danielpour, and Rita Dove.

Performance Date: July 21, 2022

Andris Nelsons, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and Christine Goerke will team up to perform “The Death of Cleopatra.” The program will also feature Mahler’s Fifth Symphony.

Performance Date: July 23, 2022

Soprano Tony Arnold will team up with conductors Stefan Asbury and Stephen Drury for a program of music by Adès, Singleton, Hyla, Trapani, and Knussen. The showcase will also feature Thomas Adès at the piano.

Performance Date: August 4, 2022

The Tanglewood Music Center Vocal Fellows will perform George Benjamin’’s “Lessons in Love and Violence.”

Performance Date: August 8, 2022

The BU Tanglewood Institute Young Artists’ Chorus will perform in Ozawa Hall.

Performance Date: August 6, 2022

Michael Tilson Thomas will lead the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Tanglewood Festival Chorus in a performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. Dashon Burton will be among the soloists for the performance.

Performance Date: August 28, 2022

There will also be talks and classes featuring such artists as Janai Brugger, Dawn Upshaw, Nicole Cabell, and Dashon Burton.
