President Joe Biden’s approval rating dropped to a new low in the latest Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll.

Fifty-six percent of responders said they either somewhat or strongly disapproved of Biden’s performance compared to 43% who said they somewhat or strongly approved of the job being done by the president. The same poll showed just 28% of Americans wanted Biden to run for reelection in 2024, including only 48% of Democrats.

The sagging numbers – the lowest recorded in the poll since the president took office  - come amid high inflation, surging COVID numbers due to the omicron variant and failure to make progress in Congress on the president’s infrastructure plans.

When asked about the low numbers, Biden replied, “I don’t believe the polls.”

In July, 59% of Americans said they approved on Biden’s job performance in the AP-NORC poll. That number dropped to 50% by late September before dipping to 48% in October and November. President Biden entered office with a 61% approval rating in January 2021.

The poll surveyed 1,161 adults with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.9 percentage points.
