The widely respected musicologist and editor András Wilheim died today, aged 72.

A Bartók authority who was also an authority on John Cage and the American avant-garde music, he worked for the Budapest New Music Studio as a consultant to contemporary Hungarian composers.

He had close contact with György Kurtág who authorised him to edit his scores published with UMP EMB.

RIP. I admired András’s work on Cage very much.

R.I.P. Andras. I have fond memories of teaching with him at a Bartok Seminar in Szombathely many years ago. We had some interesting discussions about music together – he was full of knowledge. Isten veled ,kedves Andras!
