Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh is still rumored to be looking at NFL jobs — and specifically, the Las Vegas Raiders. Harbaugh has a contract with U-M, but it’s being renegotiated. In the meantime, he’s conducting business as usual within the building. That includes recruiting, hiring assistant coaches and more.

We talk about that in today’s chat, along with several other topics. Among them:

• Michigan basketball. Is Juwan Howard’s team on the right path after two games (one win) in which the effort was outstanding?

U-M took a step in the right direction with a blowout win over Maryland, and now the Wolverines face Indiana on the road Sunday. Getting center Hunter Dickinson back from COVID was huge.

“It was great to have him back healthy on the floor. His presence out there just makes his teammates better,” Michigan coach Howard said. “He’s going to get doubled. He’s been able to make plays for others when he gets doubled. He also is skilled enough, when he’s playing against his man one-on-one in the post, or whether he’s making shots on the perimeter, whether it’s midrange or threes, he’s found ways to impact the game, not just with the ball going in the basket.

“But also, just being out there altering shots on the defensive end. He had a couple of block (against Maryland).”

• The portal. Michigan needs some help on the defensive line. Will the Wolverines be able to find it?

They thought they had a chance at tackle Jeffery Johnson, but he committed to Oklahoma. U-M could use another pass rusher, perhaps a cover corner. Where will they look?
