The Weight Band debuted in 2013 at Levon Helm’s barn in Woodstock, NY with the goal of preserving the legacy of Helm’s fabled group, The Band. Jim Weider, a former member of The Band, co-founded the collective and continues to contribute vocals, guitar and mandolin, along with Brian Mitchell (keyboards, accordion, vocals), Albert Rogers (bass, vocals), Michael Bram (drums, vocals), and Matt Zeiner (keyboards, vocals).

On April 1, 2022 The Weight Band will release Shines Like Gold, the follow-up to 2018’s World Gone Mad. As we noted in the context of the prior album, “Though The Weight Band grew out of a tribute to Helm and his bandmates, with its newly released 11-track album World Gone Mad, the ensemble have firmly established themselves as an entity unto their own.” This development continues on Shines Like Gold which features nine originals, along with a Willie Dixon cover. Colin Linden produced the record and also contributes guitar to the record, which the quintet recorded in December 2020 at Clubhouse Studio in Rhinebeck , NY.

Today we are premiering the title track. Weider tells Relix, “It’s a song I co-wrote during this pandemic with my producer Colin Linden. The song is about keeping your head up, keep the faith we’re going to come out of all this “there’s a new dawn rising, and it shines like gold….hard times are leaving we’ve done enough grieving now we’ll shine like gold.”

The Weight Band will return to the stage on February 11, 2022 in East Greenwich, RI, with the group’s full upcoming tour itinerary available at the band’s website.
