NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police released surveillance video Thursday as they search for two suspects in connection with separate attacks on seniors in Chelsea over the past week.
The pair of attacks, which police don’t believe are connected, include a violent attempted robbery, as well as an unprovoked assault that left a woman hospitalized.
The first attack happened last Thursday night on Eighth Avenue, between W. 21st and W. 22nd streets.
Police said a 67-year-old man was walking down the sidewalk just after 9 p.m. when a man came up and tried to grab his bag.
Video shows the attacker striking the victim from behind before turning around and forcing him to the ground. He then drags the victim along the pavement as he tries to steal his bag.
Two good Samaritans intervened, and the suspect fled southbound down Eighth Avenue empty-handed, police said.
The victim suffered minor injuries to his arm and lower back.
Then on Wednesday, a 72-year-old woman was attacked as she stood at a newsstand on W. 17th Street, near Ninth Avenue, around 3:10 p.m.
Police said a man came up behind the woman and pushed her, causing her to hit her head on the newsstand.
Video shows the man shoving the woman as he passes by.
The victim was taken to Lenox Health Greenwich Village in stable condition with a contusion and swelling to her forehead.
