Spoon’s ‘The Hardest Cut’ Tops Adult Alternative Airplay Chart

The song is Spoon's third No. 1 and first since 'Hot Thoughts' in 2017.

Spoon returns to No. 1 on Billboard‘s Adult Alternative Airplay chart for the first time in nearly five years with “The Hardest Cut,” which rises from No. 2 on the Jan. 22-dated list, becoming the band’s third leader.

“Cut” marks Spoon’s first No. 1 since “Hot Thoughts” ruled for seven weeks beginning in March 2017. The group first led with “Do You” for three weeks beginning in October 2014.

Between “Thoughts” and “Cut,” Spoon reached Adult Alternative Airplay three times, paced by the No. 3-peaking “No Bullets Spent” in October 2019.

Concurrently, “Cut” bullets at No. 33 on Alternative Airplay (after reaching No. 29). On the all-rock-format, audience-based Rock & Alternative Airplay chart, the song bullets at No. 23 (after hitting No. 21), with 1.6 million audience impressions, up 1%, according to MRC Data.

“Cut” is the lead single from Lucifer on the Sofa, Spoon’s 10th studio album, due Feb. 11. It’s the first LP from the group since Hot Thoughts, which debuted and peaked at No. 2 on Billboard‘s Top Rock Albums and Top Alternative Albums charts in April 2017.
