Donna Edwards announces run for former PG County Congressional District seat

Congresswoman Donna Edwards has announced her candidacy for Maryland’s open 4th Congressional District and said, “It’s time to finish the job we started and make sure our community gets its fair share in Washington — just as I always have.”

In 2008, Edwards became the first Black woman elected to represent Maryland in Congress, in an upset victory, and held her seat until 2017.

“I’m ready to get to work to deliver on what really matters — like Medicare for All, living wages, environmental justice for polluted communities, criminal justice reform, and securing our democracy and the voting rights of every single one of us,” Edwards said in her announcement. We’ll make the wealthy finally pay their fair share, so we can start bringing down the cost of living for our families.”

The 4th Congressional district includes parts of Anne Arundel and Prince George’s Counties and is currently represented by Anthony Brown, who has entered the race for Maryland Attorney General.
