Will Josephine Decker ever stop surprising us? While her style isn’t for everyone, there are a lot of devotees of Decker’s free-form, immersive, and deeply personal experimental dramas (including this writer). Her last film, 2020’s “Shirley,” a seethingly interior take on the biopic formula, won over critics at the Sundance Film Festival that year, who praised it as her most ambitious to date.

So, what’s next on Decker’s docket? From the sounds of things, a return of sorts to the territory of 2018’s “Madeline’s Madeline.” Based on the Jandy Nelson novel of the same name, “The Sky Is Everywhere” examines young love in a way only Decker knows how: uproarious, sorrowful, and distinctly poetic.

“The Sky Is Everywhere” stars up and comers Grace Kaufman, Jacques Colimon, and Pico Alexander. Cherry Jones and Jason Segal also star. Julia Schlaeper, Ji-young Yoo, and Havana Rose-Liu round out the main cast.
So, will Decker’s take on the Young Adult genre end up as original a vision as her take on Shirley Jackson? Our guess is, yes, without a doubt.
