We are less than a month away from the NBA’s trade deadline, but the Hawks have already begun moving pieces and inquiring about potential opportunities.

Cam Reddish was traded to the Knicks for Kevin Knox, who received his first minutes as a Hawk against the Timberwolves on Wednesday night, and a protected first-round pick. Although the trade seemed questionable from the outside, Travis Schlenk netted a young player and a valuable draft asset for Reddish, who had requested out of Atlanta months ago.

Schlenk simply got what he could for a player that the Hawks were never going to re-sign or be able to provide an opportunity for him to flourish; in retrospect, Atlanta’s GM once again proved he knows what the fu*k he’s doing.

Well, the trade rumors are still circulating. Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reported it is a real possibility that John Collins is moved before the trade deadline. Noting the Hawks are looking for a more diverse offensive player to free up superstar Trae Young, potentially playing off-ball more frequently. The Action Network confirmed Haynes’ reports of Atlanta’s willingness to part ways with Collins, but also a new name was also attached to the report — Bogdan Bogdanovic.

It is clear Travis Schlenk is eager to weigh the trade value on the roster. Don’t believe me? Well, new reports surfaced that before trading Reddish to New York, Schlenk was deep in trade talks with the 76ers. According to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the two sides discussed a blockbuster deal that included sending Collins, Reddish, and a first-round pick to Philly in exchange for Ben Simmons and Tobias Harris.

The Sixers reportedly lost interest when Harris was added to the deal, and the trade never came to fruition. However, it is revealing that Schlenk would be willing to shake up the roster that much. It certainly adds to the speculation that the Hawks will be extremely active ahead of the trade deadline; it could be an acquisition that makes or breaks the Hawks, which I’m not sure is a great idea.

Schlenk has given me or any other Hawks fan a reason to doubt his vision, so we will just have to wait and see how this next month plays out.
