Grand Rapids Symphony to perform blockbuster concert

The Grand Rapids Symphony will begin 2022 with a series of songs from popular movies.

The symphony will present “And the Award Goes to …” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, and Saturday, Jan. 22, at the DeVos Performance Hall, 303 Monroe Ave. NW in downtown Grand Rapids.

The concert will feature songs from Oscar-nominated and Oscar-winning films such as “Beauty and the Beast,” “Titanic,” “Mission Impossible,” “The Wizard of Oz,” “Jurassic Park,” “Peter Gunn” and “How to Train Your Dragon.”

The symphony will be led by conductor Bob Berhardt, while guest soprano Lisa Vroman and Grand Rapids principal flutist Christopher Kantner will grace the stage.

Vroman will perform songs such as “Over the Rainbow” from “The Wizard of Oz,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “My Heart Will Go On” from “Titanic.” Kantner will perform on the penny whistle.
