Test Drive of the 2022 Toyota Tundra CrewMax 1794 Edition

Thursday on Sunrise LBK with Dave King and Tom Collins, The Car Pro Jerry Reynolds joined Dave and Tom to talk about his test drive of the week, the problem of junkyard identity theft and how to prevent it, as well as other auto industry news.

This week The Car Pro was test driving the 2022 Toyota Tundra CrewMax 1794 Edition, a new version of the Tundra that is very much improved compared to the old model which had not had a major change since 2007. The old 5.7 v8 engine is gone, and is instead replaced with a brand new 3.5 liter twin turbo 6 cylinder engine that puts out 389 horses and over 420 lb. ft. of torque, which Jerry says is plenty of power despite the truck weighing almost 6,000 lbs.

The truck also has a brand new infotainment system since the previous one was quite outdated. The new version sits up high on the dash and Jerry said it works absolutely spectacularly, being fast, simple, and takes all the guess work out of using it. The truck also comes loaded with things like a panoramic moonroof, heated and cooled seats, an improved turning radius, a multilink suspension system that reduces harshness, and air suspension with an automatic onboard compressor. However, the things that Jerry thought was the coolest on this truck was a feature where, if you have the key in your pocket, and you approach the bed of the truck with your hands full, you can bump the left-rear taillight with your elbow, and it will lower the tailgate. Jerry said that it is the kind of thing that makes you say, "why didn't somebody think of this sooner?"

Jerry has always been more of a Ford, Chevy, and Ram kind of guy when it comes to recommending pickups, however he believes this one is a contender. He also loves when Toyota completely changes a vehicle and not change the price, which they have done here with a price of $66,395

The Car Pro also talked about some stories on his website carprousa.com. The first story is one that Jerry says everyone needs to read, and it concerns the problem of junkyard identity theft. Jerry said that people often get their cars towed when they are wrecked, or they will trade them in, but not take out all their personal info from the vehicle. This can be as simple as forgetting to clear your navigation system, and Reynolds said that it is prime opportunity for identity theft. Another story talks about Dustin Hoffman who is selling his convertible.
