The Friars and Warriors will meet for the second and third times this weekend to close out the regular season series. Providence claimed the first matchup on Oct. 7 by a 5-2 score at Schneider Arena. Stauber Named Hobey Baker Nominee
Providence College junior goaltender Jaxson Stauber (Plymouth, Minn.) has been nominated for the Hobey Baker Award, given annually to the top player in Division I men's hockey. Stauber ranks fifth in the NCAA with 14 victories, ninth in shutouts (3), 16th in save percentage (.922) and third in minutes played (1421:33). The junior has surrendered two or fewer goals in 15-of-23 starts this season in posting a 2.15 goals-against average.

Taige Harding Added to the Roster
The Providence College men's hockey program has added Taige Harding (St. Albert, Alta.) to the roster for the second half of the 2021-22 season. The 6-foot-7-inch, 230-pound defenseman will wear No. 27 with the Friars. A third-round selection (91st overall) of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2021 NHL Draft, Harding joins the Friars after spending two and a half seasons with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). As a captain for the Oil Barons in 2021-22, Harding ranked second on the team in scoring with 14 goals and 23 assists for 37 points in 37 games. He also was named AJHL Defensive Player of the Week three times this season. In 99 career games with Fort McMurray, he amassed 20 goals, 36 assists and 154 penalty minutes.

Returning Production
Providence ranked sixth in the nation with 84 goals that returned this season. The 82% of returning goals ranked fourth nationally. The Friars also returned 76% of their points from last season, which also ranked sixth.

Youth Movement
The Friars have the 16th youngest roster in the NCAA this season (average age of 21 years, 11 months). Freshman Guilluame Richard is one of the younger players on an NCAA roster this year at 18 years and 8 months.

On Jan. 2, Bjorkqvist made his NHL debut and scored his first NHL goal against the San Jose Sharks.

Engelbert Named Hockey East Co-Player of the Week on Jan. 3
Providence College's Jamie Engelbert (Cobourg, Ont.) was named Hockey East Co-Player of the Week on Monday (Jan. 3). The junior forward shared the recognition with Boston College's Jack McBain. Engelbert was crucial during Providence's 6-2 win over Bowling Green at the Kwik Trip Holiday Faceoff on Dec. 28, breaking a 2-2 tie in the second period and eventually recording a natural hat trick in the victory. Engelbert finished with a +3 rating and six shots on goal over the two games in Milwaukee.
