PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team announced its 2022 schedule today (Jan. 20). The Friars will play 51 games during the 2022 season, including three tournaments, 24 BIG EAST Conference games and 20 home games. 
 
The Friars finished last season with a 5-16-1 overall record with a 4-13-1 conference mark.
 
Providence will begin its season at Elon University in Elon, N.C. from Feb. 19-21 for the 2022 Elon University Phoenix Invitational. The Friars will match-up against Elon and Morgan State for two games each before wrapping up the tournament against the University of Massachusetts-Lowell. Elon finished last season with an 18-21 overall record. The Bears won the MEAC Tournament last season and made it to the Norman Region in the NCAA Tournament.
 
The Friars will then travel to the University of California-Santa Barbara to play five games from Feb. 25- Feb. 27 in the UC Santa Barbara Tournament. They will play Idaho State and Boise State two times and will face UCSB once.
 
Providence will face Boston College for their home opener on Wednesday, March 2 at Glay Field in Providence, R.I. before traveling to Towson, Md. for the 2022 Demarini Tiger Clash from March 4-6. The Friars will face Coppin State, Colombia University and Towson University.
 
The Friars will play Brown (March 9), Merrimack in a doubleheader (March 16), Rhode Island (March 22), Maine (April 6) in a doubleheader, Stony Brook (April 9) in a doubleheader and Bryant (April 19) as their non-conference games to wrap up the season.
 
Providence will welcome St. John's (March 18-20), Georgetown (April 1-3), Villanova (April 22-24) and DePaul (May 6-8) for its home BIG EAST opponents. DePaul won the BIG EAST regular season title last season after finishing 13-1 in conference play. Villanova won their first BIG EAST Tournament, by defeating UConn in the championship game, 6-1.
 
The Friars will travel to Seton Hall (March 11-13), Creighton (March 25-27), UConn (April 15-17) and Butler (April 29 – May 1) for their away BIG EAST games.
 
The BIG EAST Championship will be held from May 12-14 in Chicago, Ill.
