NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD released video Thursday of a suspect and a vehicle they’re searching for a day after an 11-month-old girl was shot in the face by a stray bullet in the Bronx.
The girl was in critical but stable condition at Weill Cornell Medical Center after the shooting around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday near E. 198th Street and Valentine Avenue.
The infant was shot in her cheek as she sat in a car with her mother, police said. Her father was in a nearby deli getting groceries at the time.
The newly released video shows the suspect chasing a second man down a street with his gun drawn. Police said he fired two shots, with one of the rounds entering the vehicle and striking the girl.
Police also released images of a gray four-door sedan they said the suspect fled the scene in.
Mayor Eric Adams met with the girl’s mother and father at the hospital Wednesday night.
“She walked into the room, and she grabbed our hands and she prayed,” Adams said of the mom. “She prayed for her city, and she prayed for the children of this city.”
The mayor once again promised to make the city safer despite an array of recent violent crimes in just his first few weeks in office.
“I’m not going to surrender this city to violence,” Adams said.
Police haven’t revealed a possible motive in the shooting.
No arrests have been reported.
