At one point of time, it had looked like Celtic were set to complete a move for Riley McGree. But it is believed that Middlesbrough made a late offer for him and the Australian international joined the English Championship club instead. And thus, it is only natural for Hoops fans to be nervous about celebrating any transfer before an official announcement is made. But even then, a move for Matt O’Riley only looks like a matter of time now.

The rumours might not have emerged a long time ago but it looks like the club have moved swiftly to get a deal over the line for the MK Dons star.

Rumours have suggested that Celtic will be shelling out a transfer fee in the region of £1.5 million to bring him to Parkhead. O’Riley has been one of the most highly-rated players in League One this season and only turned 21 years of age just a couple of months back.

As tweeted out by Pete O’Rourke, O’Riley has passed a Celtic medical and will complete his move in the next 24 hours:

O’Riley looks set to complete Celtic move despite late West Bromwich Albion attempt

As reported by the Daily Record, Celtic have prevented a late attempt by West Bromwich Albion to swoop in for O’Riley.

Thus, it looks like this could have easily ended up being a repeat of the McGree transfer saga, with several clubs interested in O’Riley as well but the Hoops have been able to come out on top this time around.

While nothing has been made official yet, it does feel like the move is only a matter of time, with multiple sources appearing to be confident of Celtic’s chances of getting the deal over the line.

O’Riley is an exciting talent for sure and has been a standout in the League One this season. Now, it will be interesting to see if he can make the adjustment to Celtic.
