English Dub Review: Shaman King Season One Part Three

Overview:

Part three of the Netflix remake of Shaman King.

Our Take:

So Netflix is starting to crank out these parts pretty quickly now. We might have the conclusion to Shaman King by next month if this keeps up. While I wouldn’t say I’ll be happy to see it go I am looking forward to the conclusion to it. Now let’s get into it.

I think your enjoyment of Shaman King will be directly linked to how much you enjoy shounen tropes. As previous reviews have said, this is a remake of a 2000’s show that was based on a ’90’s manga. So all the tropes that you might be tired of now, are front and center here. Power of friendship and everything so keep in mind your feelings on that.

The new part means new arcs and new characters and expounding on previous characters. One of the new, well, new to me at least characters, is Yoh’s dad, Mikihisa. He was one of the most fun things about this part. He was voiced by Keith Silverstein and he did a fantastic job. Mikihisa tests some of Yoh’s friends and it was some of the most entertaining episodes.

It wasn’t the MOST entertaining though, that goes to the flashback section of this part. I really enjoyed getting to see how Yoh and Anna met. She definitely didn’t want anything to do with him at first and he sure didn’t win any points with her early on. But my favorite part of the flashback was the cat spirit, Matamune. There are some revelations involving him but it’s his relationship with Yoh that really shines. Greg Chun is the voice of Matamune and my god was he phenomenal. If I had to give an award to any voice actor in this part it would be him. His voice acting made the flashback scenes that much more memorable.

If I’m not mistaken there’s only one part left after this. I don’t know how they will wrap everything up in twelve episodes but with how fast it’s been paced it’s definitely possible. Here is to hoping they nail the landing with it.
