Michael Dean Grissom, 65 of W. 10th Street, Jamestown, N.Y., passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at UPMC Chautauqua.

Michael Dean was born on May 5, 1956, in Jamestown, N.Y., the son of the late Cleveland and Annie Mae Leeper Grissom.

Michael Dean worked as a landscaper at Chautauqua Institution. He also owned and operated his own garbage pickup business. He held various jobs over the years, but always had a job.

Michael Dean was a member and served as an usher of Emmanuel Baptist Church. In his younger years he played basketball and football at Washington Middle School and Jamestown High School.

Michael Dean was family oriented and enjoyed being with his family. He enjoyed going for rides with his wife in their classic cars over the years and fishing together. He will be remembered as a kind man who was always willing to lend a hand even to those he didn’t know. He was an avid Buffalo Bill’s fan. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and his classic cars over the years.

Michael Dean is survived by his wife, Donna Halftown Grissom, whom he married on Nov. 28, 1992, in Georgia; his son, Mikey Grissom of Jamestown, N.Y.; two daughters: Michelle (Lamar) Thomas of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Shatae Grissom of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two stepdaughters: Maria Halftown (Will Hall) of Jamestown, N.Y., and LaToya Raymond of Jamestown, N.Y.; his brother, Timothy Grissom of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters: Shirley (William) White and Sandra (Steven) Crawford, both of Jamestown, N.Y; eight grandchildren: Allan Jerry, Shiricca Green, Malachi Biles, Tajon Grissom, Cleveland Grissom, Bill Fielder Jr., Arayah Hall and Willow Hall; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is predeased by a halfsister, Joyce Jones.

Family and friends may call at Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral on Monday, Jan. 24, from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m. The Rev. LeRoy Walker, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
