GLASGOW — Dorothy Wood had just left home Wednesday morning before a fiery blaze erupted inside it.

The mobile home along Smiley Court caught fire Wednesday morning. Units from Glasgow Fire responded to the fire just after 7:20 a.m. Two units responded alongside police and EMS crews.

Wood’s husband, Dallas, was inside the home. He said he’s unsure what ignited the blaze, but the family noticed a pungent odor like fingernail polish remover before it began.

“Heard a pop, and then there was flames,” Dallas said.

Mr. Wood said the fire began in a corner of a bedroom. He tried to extinguish the flames, but they continued to spread across the home.

Dorothy takes a few children to school each morning, according to a nearby neighbor. She said she learned her home was ablaze moments after she left.

“I just froze, and we took off running because I was worried about my husband,” Dorothy said. “He’s on oxygen, and if he gets too much smoke he wouldn’t have got out.”

Smoke continued to fill the home faster than Mrs. Wood could work. She said ushering her husband from the home was her priority.

“I couldn’t even think to call them. I just wanted to get him out of the house,” Dorothy said. “I couldn’t find nothing. I couldn’t see because of all the smoke.”

The wife was concerned for her husband’s safety, she said.

“He could’ve died,” she said. “He could’ve died.”

The fire’s cause is unclear. Fire crews continued shoveling debris and ash from the home’s bedroom window. Smoke damage could be seen across the home’s walls and exterior.

The Wood family was removed from the home with no injuries.
