The San Francisco main post office on Evans Avenue has installed a California Department of Motor Vehicles kiosk, that helps customers with 10 common DMV tasks.
The U.S. Postal Service partnered with the DMV to place these kiosks in post office lobbies in Los Angeles, Oakland, Paradise, Rancho Cordova, Sacramento and now San Francisco, according to the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
"The kiosks are a convenient way to take care of DMV tasks without going to a DMV office," Anita Gore spokesperson with the California Department of Motor Vehicles told KCBS Radio.
Gore said one of the most popular tasks the kiosk is used for is registration renewal. Once you get your registration in the mail you can take it to the kiosk and scan the barcode off of the renewal letter, pay for the registration and then it will spit out the stickers for your car.
"The DMV is doing everything it can to provide customers the ability to take care of DMV business when and where they want and how they want," She said. "This is one more convenient way, we have the kiosks and most things that you need to do at a DMV office you can do online."
With the current omicron surge, the DMV encourages people to use online resources or kiosks to prevent a large number of people from coming into the field offices. The kiosks are available 24 hours a day in the post office lobbies.
