SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that the club has signed goalkeeper Matt Bersano to a contract for the 2022 Major League Soccer season with a club option for 2023.

Bersano, 29, has been on the Quakes’ roster since 2017 and is among the longest tenured players on the team (Shea Salinas – 2012; Tommy Thompson – 2014; Jackson Yueill – 2017). Over the past five years, Bersano made 60 appearances on loan with the Quakes’ former USL Championship affiliate Reno 1868 FC, where he was a two-time USL Team of the Week honoree and named Reno’s Goalkeeper of the Year in 2017 and 2018. Bersano has not yet featured in an MLS match.

Prior to playing for the Earthquakes, Bersano made two appearances for USL side Seattle Sounders FC 2 in 2016. A former youth player at Real Salt Lake AZ, Bersano competed collegiately at Oregon State (2011-14) and Penn State (2015).
