The 2019 Union & Branch Cabernet Sauvignon opens with an attractive aroma of dark fruit plus a little vanilla and sweet spice.
Taking a sip reveals a smooth wine, a bit on the sweet side, but well put together. It features more sweet, dark fruit plus plenty of vanilla and oaky spice. This is likely to have a lot of mass appeal.
It ends mostly dry and with good length. At $14.99, it's on the pricier side for Aldi but it's good enough to justify it.
The marketing, on the other hand, is way over the top with the wax seal, the heavy bottle and the "Limited Production Small Lot Reserve" branding along with other esoteric details like the soil pH level listed on the label. (We're really not sure what we're supposed to divine from the soil pH.) This one delivers despite itself.
