The Helena Police Department is investigating the deaths of two people in a home in the 100 block of Piney Woods Drive.
A 12-year-old boy came home shortly before 3:30 p.m. and found his grandfather unresponsive, authorities said. He found his grandmother unharmed and went to a neighbor’s house.
Police were called and entered the home. The grandfather was pronounced dead on the scene.
Officers then did a search of the house and found a second woman, also unresponsive. She, too, was pronounced dead on the scene.
Authorities said both deaths are homicides, and the killings are believed to be domestic-related. The cause of deaths have not been publicly released.
Detectives are being assisted by the Shelby County Major Crimes Task Force in processing the scene and conducting an investigation.
“We are attempting to locate a person of interest who may have information pertaining to this investigation,” the department posted on Facebook. “There is no danger to the community.”
Helena Police Chief Brad Flynn identified the person of interest as 41-year-old John Peyton Scott III. He said Scott also had been living at the home and police are actively searching for him.
The 12-year-old boy and his 16-year-old brother are being cared for by the Department of Human Resources.
Additional information was not immediately available. As of 8 p.m., investigators were still actively processing the scene.
