Schenectady residents say they’re pleased with the city’s snow plow progress this winter, compared to last winter.
CBS6 worked to speak with city leaders on Monday during the storm, but city offices were closed because of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
CBS6’s Leanne DeRosa visited City Hall on Wednesday to get answers. Mayor McCarthy was out of town at a conference, but she spoke with a spokesperson from the mayor’s office.
The spokesperson in the Mayor’s office says they've received nothing but compliments about snow plowing in the city after this recent snow storm. Last year, the city was criticized for not plowing certain streets fast enough.
CBS6 also spoke with Schenectady residents who live on Linden Street. They had major problems with snow removal last year, but they say they're very happy with how the city cleaned their block this year.
Last year, after the near-30-inch snow storm in December, residents on Linden Street reached out to CBS6 to voice frustration. The block was nearly impassable days after the storm. The CBS6 camera crew even got stuck in the snow on their street.
Last year, Linden Street resident Mike Rebokis said “It's still snow covered, cars are getting stuck left and right trying to get out, trying to dig themselves out, trying to get up the street, it's basically very narrow one way, if two cars come forget it, one has to try to back up. It’s atrocious, the street's atrocious.”
This year, CBS6 visited Linden Street and found conditions were much better. Residents said they were thrilled.
City officials attribute the plowing success this week to “significantly less snow”.
The city has a Live Snow Plow tracker map on the city website. Residents can track where the plows are going, and where they’ve been.
The mayor’s office says the map is up and running, and they haven’t heard any complaints.
