Leaked Jorge Mendes talk reveals agent wanted Joao Felix to seal Man City transfer in 2019 instead of Atletico Madrid
SUPER-AGENT Jorge Mendes wanted Joao Felix to join Manchester City before he moved to Atletico Madrid for £113million in 2019.
SunSport revealed in May of the same year that talks between Mendes and members of the Etihad hierarchy had taken place.
Our story has now been confirmed after extracts from a leaked conversation between Felix’s representative and Benfica director Bruno Maruta were published in Portugal.
On the recording Mendes can be heard saying: “The Benfica president insisted that I bring him proposals of €120million and I already have four.
“The best thing for Joao Felix would be Manchester City.
"It will be the most expensive transfer in Portuguese football.”
Felix left Benfica for Atletico that summer, while City plumped for midfielder Rodri and defender Joao Cancelo.
The Portuguese forward has had mixed fortunes during his three years in Madrid, showing glimpses of his incredible ability.

The 22-year-old has scored 22 goals and bagged 12 assists in 94 appearances for Atletico.
He is also a regular Portugal international alongside Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo.
Felix has scored three times in 20 matches for his country.
