Biden vows to leave White House more often to speak directly with voters

President Joe Biden repeatedly lamented his inability to speak directly with voters, promising to approach 2022 and the coming midterm elections differently.

“I’m going to get out of this place more often. I’m going to go out and talk to the public,” Biden told reporters Wednesday during his second stand-alone White House press conference.

In response to a question about how he would address black voters disappointed by his inability to get voting legislation passed, he also acknowledged not being out in the community enough.

Other New Year’s resolutions include consulting more outside experts regarding his legislative agenda as he helps raise money and campaign for “dozens” of 2022 candidates.

“I’m going to be deeply involved in these off-year elections,” he said.

During an almost two-hour-long press conference, convened to mark his first anniversary in office, Biden graded his own aides as having “done remarkably well” in leading his administration’s pandemic response.

“With everything else going on, I don’t view that as a mark of incompetence,” he said, citing testing concerns.

Biden was also unapologetic over his deadly withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan.

“There is no way to get out of Afghanistan after 20 years easily — not possible no matter when you did it,” he said.
