Every once in awhile we get spoiled in a Zelda game with an item or ability that almost makes the game too easy. I usually find such things to be a lot of fun if there was effort in getting them; like the trading sequence for the boomerang in Link’s Awakening DX, or gathering all the masks and then challenging the moon children to games to get the Fierce Deity’s Mask in Majora’s Mask. Even if there was no challenge in getting the overpowered reward, being able to use it can often be so much fun that I don’t mind. Although picking a favorite is hard, I recently decided to try to choosing which one I like best!

I would have probably picked the One Hit Obliterator from Breath of the Wild as my favorite, because I love having an item that is so overpowered, yet its lethality is negated tremendously because Link’s health is so low. The problem is Link doesn’t get to keep it, and whether it’s actually overpowered in the circumstances of its use is a debate for another day. Second up, I have always enjoyed using the Fierce Deity’s Mask to lob magical spheres at Majora’s Mask in the final battle. While that battle is extremely easy, it’s not an instantanous victory either. As much as I like that mask, I think the top spot has to go to the Link’s Awakening boomerang for me. Unlike the other items, it can be used anywhere, plus I really like its range. I pretty much exclusively use it, even over the Seashell Sword which does a lot of damage in its own right!
