Some clever movement from the winger allowed him to reach Fred's pinpoint cross.

Elanga flicked the ball up with his first touch before heading beyond Jonas Lossl to put his side 1-0 up in majestic manner.

Speaking to BT Sport after the match, Elanga said: "The first touch set it up. I could see the keeper coming and I just had to head it in.

"I want to continue to work hard and get more goals.

Elanga maintained his place in the team with Jadon Sancho absent due to a family bereavement - and Rangnick's faith in him was rewarded with the goal.

United built on their opener with Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes linking up brilliantly to assist Mason Greenwood for the second.

Fernandes then turned provider once more to put Marcus Rashford through on goal - as the England star found the top corner in style.

And the Red Devils' second-half onslaught of the Bees could help reduce pressure on Rangnick who came under fire from some sections of the support.

After the match the German said: "Anthony Elanga followed up on the performance he showed at Villa Park.

"He was outstanding in the second half, put in a lot of work against the ball and then scoring the first goal.

"But I am happy for all our young players tonight - three young English goalscorers."
