Rebel Wilson has always been unapologetically herself, and she’s proving that with her latest Instagram post.
To share the exciting news that she will be hosting the EE British Academy Film Awards on March 13, the comedic actress posted a photo of herself flaunting her signature blonde hair and a black blazer. In the caption, Rebel playfully gushed about wanting to hang out with Judi Dench and, hopefully, getting to bond with Daniel Craig himself. But that's not all — notably, Rebel also took a moment to clap back at those who have said that her comedy won't be as good now that her physical appearance has changed.
"It's going to be so much fun! I don't wanna put any pressure on this - I know I'm not going to be funny because I am no longer fat," Rebel quipped about the hosting gig. "And besides, I'm not going to 'sweat-it' with nerves because I have a peculiar medical condition where I can't sweat...or cause offense to people because of my adorable Australian accent."
Loving her caption, Rebel's fans immediately rushed to support her and further shut down her body critics. "Beautiful pic and great news! You will still be funny whatever the case and good luck with 007! 🤣,” one fan said. Another said, "This is SAVAGE and I love it so much 🔥🔥." A different fan commented, "You’ll be great. You are more than a face and a body."
Rebel’s Pitch Perfect costar Adam Devine also showed support for her new gig. “Hahaha! Love the caption. You’re going to crush it, Rebs!!!," he wrote.
At the start of 2020, Rebel embarked on a "Year of Health" journey that resulted in her losing over 70 pounds and changing her overall wellness routine. As Rebel shared her journey online, she received a significant amount of praise and support from fans. But unfortunately, this also came with criticism from body shamers. As Rebel told BBC, even her own management team didn't encourage her fitness goals.
"I got a lot of pushback from people on my own team, actually, here in Hollywood ... They were like, 'Why would you wanna do that?' Because I was earning millions of dollars being the funny fat girl and being that person," Rebel said.
During the same interview, Rebel talked about how she's been treated differently since having her Year of Health.
"There were some people who said, 'Oh, well will she not be funny now?' And I'm like, 'Check out my new movies in a new year [likely referring to Senior Year, coming to Netflix in 2022] coming out and see what you think, guys,'" Rebel later added.
In the end, Rebel did what she thought was best for herself and is proud of where she is today — and that's all that really matters.
