Leigh Griffiths has had a roller coaster of a ride with Celtic since being signed by the club from Wolves way back in early 2014. After all that has happened over the years, it was a surprise to a lot of fans when he had his contract extended by a year in the summer. Back then, the decision made sense as Odsonne Edouard appeared to be on his way out while the Scot was the most experienced striker at the club, and many felt could still make a mark.

It hasn’t worked out like that in practice though with Griffiths being sent out on loan to Dundee FC not too long afterwards. One might have expected him to lead the line and score goals there but instead he has struggled to find the back of the net and game time.

Rumours emerged that Dundee FC were thinking of sending the player back to Celtic. But since then, suggestions have been that the Hoops are set to release Griffiths. Many fans will recall the goals and the good times for Griffiths at Parkhead, while others may be more concerned with when things went wrong.

Ange Postecoglou appeared to confirm that Griffiths was on his way out of Celtic and was appreciative of what he had achieved at the club. As reported by Sky Sports, the manager said:

"“I think that’s come to an end, yeah.“Leigh is now looking for the next chapter of his career.“An outstanding football career at Celtic. All of us, we kind of pass through clubs, but you want to leave a mark there when you do.“Leigh has certainly done that. I think he can look back on his Celtic career with great pride and he goes on to the next chapter of his football career. We wish him all the best.”"

Postecoglou appears to confirm Celtic decision on Griffiths

A classy response, as is becoming the norm for the Celtic manager. Clear and firm as usual in his views.

Whatever one’s thoughts are on Griffiths, there is no doubt that on top of his game, he was one of the best strikers that Celtic have had in a long time, scoring the most goals for the club over the previous decade.

So let’s remember him for the good times as the Scot looks to be on his way out of Parkhead.
