The Desperate Hour Trailer

"Do something about it!!" Vertical Ent. + Roadside Attractions have revealed the first official trailer for The Desperate Hour, an intense "real time" thriller starring Naomi Watts as a mother. This one originally premiered at the 2021 Toronto Film Festival last year under the title Lakewood (a reference to the location where this film takes place in), but because it received so many mid to bad reviews, they decided to give it a different name. A mother on a jog in the woods desperately races against time to return and save her child as authorities place her small town on lockdown following a school shooting. In addition to Watts, the cast features Colton Gobbo and Sierra Maltby. The screenplay is written by the same writer as the thriller films Buried, ATM, Mercy, and Greenland. This definitely looks very suspenseful, but the big twist partway through this trailer is a bit strange. So that's what she tries to do? Huh… Not really sure that's a good idea.

Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Phillip Noyce's The Desperate Hour, direct from YouTube:

The Desperate Hour Poster

Unfolding in real time, The Desperate Hour is a "riveting and pulse pounding" thriller by award-winning director Phillip Noyce. Recently widowed mother Amy Carr (Naomi Watts) is doing her best to restore normalcy to the lives of her young daughter and teenage son in their small town. As she's on a jog in the woods, she finds her town thrown into chaos as a shooting takes place at her son's school. Miles away, on foot in the dense forest, Amy desperately races against time to save her son. The Desperate Hour, formerly known as Lakewood, is directed by the acclaimed Australian filmmaker Phillip Noyce, director of many award-winning movies including Backroads, Newsfront, Heatwave, Dead Calm, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, The Saint, The Bone Collector, Rabbit-Proof Fence, The Quiet American, Catch a Fire, Salt, The Giver, and Above Suspicion previously. The screenplay is written by Chris Sparling. This initially premiered at the 2021 Toronto Film Festival last fall. Vertical + Roadside will debut Noyce's The Desperate Hour in select US theaters + on VOD starting February 25th, 2022 this winter. Anyone want to watch?

HMm.. the tripping and bumping her head part felt a bit too cheap for me..if that sets the standard for plot solutions....

Not so sure I understand the running part of this. Seems a bit contrived as a vehicle to buy time. And maybe this is a nit, but as a runner who has done trail races, I can tell you from experience that when you trip like that your first instinct is to brace the fall with your hands. You would drop the phone, hit hands first, and very rarely would you hit your head like that.

When you're desperate, you're not experienced nor professional, you're simply lost on so many levels. But I also agree, that could've been done better...

I will not do the nitpicking here since I'm concerned with the cliche where she turns out to be a part of some special forces unit. Now that's what is really boring here...

Lot of nitpicking here...lol...reminds me of voices from the peanut gallery...and that perhaps too often I'm a member of the nitpicking peanut gallery. But hey...I love Naomi Watts...her work. Always have. I love that she has not gone to the extreme like her best bud Nicole Kidman with the cosmetic surgery thing. She looks real. She looks like a woman her age. While Kidman, whom I simply cannot watch anymore, looks like a porcelin or plastic doll. Pity too and she used to be really something to watch. As far as the director, Noyce is more than capable of filming a good film. After Rabbit Proof Fence I've always given him a shot as that was such a great, important and relevant film.

I agree with you. I even state in my post, "And maybe this is a nit..." Really, it was just something that jumped out to me immediately. I like Naomi Watts, too. Other actresses like Kidman really didn't need plastic surgery and it's sad that they've altered their looks so much.

And I agree with you. Kidman must have some really challenging issues about aging, etc. because she's always been very attractive. The latest mind boggling surgery was Kate Beckinsale. My god, she was so beautful and now she looks like Kidman. It's so strange and so sad. Hollywood...films...it's a rough business and the pressures on women/acresses are pathological. Cheers, eh?

Really? That's shocking. Kate Beckinsale is beautiful. Hollywood puts pressure on women to not age, I suppose. Again, sad.
