A Marine has been charged after he was driving a military vehicle that crashed and killed two other Marines Wednesday afternoon.
State Troopers said that the accident happened on Hwy. 210 near Dixon High School around 1 p.m.
Sergeant Devin Rich with the NCSHP said that the vehicle was making a right turn onto U.S. 17, lost control and overturned and ejected Marines out of the truck.
Troopers said a second military vehicle was unable to stop and struck one of the ejected passengers from the lead military vehicle.
Rich said two Marines were killed in the crash and 19 in all were onboard the truck.
Fifteen people in all were treated and two others were airlifted to Vidant in Greenville, according to Troopers.
Luis Poncebarrera, 19, of Springfield, Tenn. was charged with one count of exceeding a safe speed and two counts of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
The SHP is conducting a full investigation.
Governor Roy Cooper issued a statement offering his condolences.
Identities of those dead are not being released at this time.
