Former Cleveland outfielder Coco Crisp hired into Nationals player development system

Coco Crisp, who was a fan favorite during his time in Cleveland, has been added as a coordinator within the Washington Nationals’ player development system.

Former Cleveland outfielder Coco Crisp, who spent five seasons with the team and was Mahoning Valley’s manager in the inaugural 2021 MLB Draft League, has been hired into the Washington Nationals’ player development system.

Crisp has been named an outfield and base-running coordinator, which comes as no surprise for a player who stole 309 bases in his fifteen-year major-league career.

From 2002-2005 and 2016 with the then-Indians, Crisp hit .285/.331/.423 with 37 home runs, 93 doubles, 14 triples, 57 stolen bases, 184 RBIs and a 94 wRC+ while becoming a fan favorite. In the 2016 playoffs, Crisp also hit a memorable two-run homer over the Green Monster at Fenway to help put away the Red Sox in Game 3 of the ALDS.

During his career, which also spanned tours with Boston, Kansas City and Oakland, Crisp was one of the best defensive outfielders in the game, and would win a World Series with the Red Sox in 2007 (if it helps, he only hit .143 against Cleveland in the ALCS that year). He also led the American League in steals in 2011 with 49.
