Two of the top five prospects in all of baseball are likely to make their debut at Comerica Park in 2022.
Maybe even on Opening Day.
Outfielder Riley Greene was ranked fourth and first baseman Spencer Torkelson fifth in Baseball America’s newly released ranking of top 100 prospects.
The Detroit Tigers had only one other prospect on the list, right-handed pitcher Jackson Jobe (79th).
Torkelson was also ranked No. 5 a year ago, while Greene has surged up the ladder from No. 31.
Three Tigers starters -- left-hander Tarik Skubal (20th) and right-handers Casey Mize (28th) and Matt Manning (30th) -- graduated from the list by virtue of their innings pitched in the big leagues in 2021.
Baltimore Orioles catching prospect Adley Rutschman was ranked No. 1 overall this year. He was No. 2 a year ago, behind shortstop Wander Franco, who debuted for the Tampa Bay Rays last summer.
Greene and Torkelson are both expected to compete for spots on the Opening Day roster this spring.
Jobe, the No. 3 overall draft pick in 2021, has yet to pitch in professional baseball after the Tigers opted not to push him last summer.
The Tigers passed on high school shortstop Marcelo Mayer to select Jobe. Mayer was picked up by the Red Sox with the No. 4 pick and is ranked No. 15 overall by Baseball America.
