Hair stamps are back (again), and this time they're set to be bigger than ever. The forgotten Y2K trend started taking off in the nineties and noughties but flopped before it ever really made it big. But, from the looks of things, the music industry is working hard on bringing the look back in a major way.
Rihanna debuted red and black stamped hair in a series of racy pics posted to her Instagram account on January 17, to spotlight her Savage X Fenty Valentines Day lingerie collection. She paired a lacy red bodysuit with punky striped hair alongside the caption “Valentines Day is for me…but you can watch."

The look is pretty bad*ss, and people definitely want in. Beauty retailer Justmylook revealed that searches for "hair stamps" skyrocketed by 566% overnight and “Rihanna hair” was up by 6700% as fans rushed to recreate the look. And if you're feeling deja vu, that's because you may well have seen (or rocked) the hairstyle back in the day. The alt-look, previously known as “raccoon tail hair” was popular amongst scene girls, indie kids, and moshers in the 2000s, but the chunky horizontal stripes are making a resurgence.
Rihanna is not the only musician that's on board with hair stamps, though. Dua Lipa shared a snap of herself on January 7, showing her platinum blonde hair stamped with a red and green heart design. The looks offers a cutesier alternative that throws back to the bright and glittery stars flowers and peace signs we used to stamp on with our HotStamps.

And Megan Thee Stallion gave the trend a modern makeover in her “Cry Baby” music video last year when her hairstylist, Kellon Deryck, created a thigh-length Barbie blonde wig stenciled with pink, blue, and yellow flowers.
