Former E. Oklahoma undersheriff arraigned on federal charges
Wednesday morning, former Leflore County Undersheriff Kendall Morgan appeared via video conference before U.S. Magistrate Kimberly West in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
Morgan was formally arraigned and charged with three counts of Deprivation of Rights Under Color Of Law. Morgan is accused of striking two people who were in handcuffs and not resisting in January 2017 and a third person, a juvenile, in December 2017.
Morgan pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Morgan was appointed a public defender. The judge ordered Morgan to be released from detention on a $10,000 bond until his trial date. His pretrial release bond conditions include restricting travel outside the Eastern District of Oklahoma, not possessing a firearm, and not having contact with any witnesses or victims in the case.
A trial has been scheduled for March 1, 2022, at 9 a.m. in federal court in Muskogee before U.S. Magistrate Ronald White.
If found guilty, Morgan faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000 as well as up to three years supervised release for each count.
