Man stabbed during altercation inside store on Joseph Avenue in Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Rochester police are investigating after a man was stabbed in a store on Joseph Avenue Wednesday afternoon.

Officials say officers responded to the area of Joseph Avenue and Pardee Street around 12:45 p.m. for the report of a man who was stabbed.

Upon arrival, authorities say officers found a man in his 30s suffering from a stab wound to his upper body. The victim was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with injuries that are described as “potentially life-threatening.”

Police say it appears the victim was stabbed during an altercation inside of a store in the 800 block of Joseph Avenue.

Officials say there are no suspects in custody and anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call 911.

This was a separate investigation as Rochester police also responded to a triple shooting that left one dead and another in critical condition, just a few blocks away.

According to Rochester police, it’s the third homicide of 2022 after the city saw a record 81 homicides in 2021.

It was also Rochester’s second triple shooting in less than a week. Last Thursday three people were shot, including a 3-year-old, following a “domestic violence situation” on Glendale Park near Lake Avenue. Richard Burchard-Lopez, 23 of Rochester, was later arrested and charged in connection to the Glendale Park shooting.

Rochester police later responded to the area of South Plymouth Avenue and Doran Street for the report of a shooting.

Rochester Mayor Malik Evans is scheduled to host a press conference at 1 p.m. Thursday to discuss the city’s violence prevention initiatives.
