Zdeno Chara buried an uppercut into the face of Flyers center Zach MacEwan on Tuesday night, then promptly asked if he was OK.
Chara, the oldest active player in the league, dropped gloves with MacEwan after the 25-year-old executed a high hit on Islanders teammate Scott Mayfield, who lost his helmet as a result of the hit. Chara, who logged his first NHL fight when MacEwan was just one year old, promptly taught MacEwan a lesson in pain, and then sportsmanship.
After the 6-foot-9 Chara took MacEwan down with an uppercut to the face, the New York defenseman appeared to ask “You OK, bud?” as MacEwan was pulled back to his feet.
The fight from Chara seemed to ignite the Islanders, who were down 3-2 before Chara’s scuffle midway through the third period, and came back to win 4-3 in a shootout.
