Gaspard Ulliel, an award-winning French actor set to star in the upcoming Disney+ series Moon Knight, died on Wednesday after a skiing accident in the Alps. According to the Associated Press, Ulliel’s death was announced by his agent’s office. He was 37.

Ulliel was hospitalized on Tuesday following a collision with another skier at a crossing point on the slopes in the Savoie region’s Rosière ski zone, the AP reported, citing local broadcaster France Bleu. According to France Bleu, the actor was hospitalized with a head injury, and the other skier did not require hospitalization. Mountain police serving the area said there had been five or six rescues a day in this location as snow hardened on the slopes.

Born in Boulogne-Billancourt, a suburb outside of Paris, Ulliel reportedly studied cinema at the University of Saint-Denis before acting in the films Summer Things, Strayed, and A Very Long Engagement—all of which earned him César Award nominations for most promising actor. Ulliel would win for the latter movie, also taking home best-actor honors for 2016’s It’s Only the End of the World.

His other notable roles include a young Hannibal Lecter in 2007’s Hannibal Rising and the French fashion magnate Yves Saint Laurent in the 2014 biopic Saint Laurent. In addition to acting, Ulliel was a model and the face of the Chanel men’s fragrance Bleu de Chanel. One of his final projects was the upcoming Marvel series Moon Knight, in which he played the villainous Midnight Man opposite Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke. The series is set to premiere on March 30.

Ulliel is survived by his partner, Gaëlle Piétri, and his son, Orso.
