Emily Ratajkowski Is Fully Embracing the Twee Comeback With Big Bangs

It's giving very much 500 Days of Summer.

Emily Ratajkowski rang in the new year with a fashionable (and fashionably late) Instagram post. Two weeks into 2022, on January 16, she dropped her first grid post of the year: a photo of herself wearing a disco-ball-shiny fringed top and black pants.

"Twenty twenty too," she captioned a pair of pictures: a mirror selfie followed by a bathroom snap. Her backless top has a nearly floor-length fringe, reminiscent of tinsel. Her silvery and sparkly accessories — iPhone, clutch purse, bracelet, rings, strappy heels — accentuate the look, which is completed with low-slung black slacks.

Her top isn't the only fringe on display. The model and author debuted bangs in the post, styled in a ‘60s-ish mod way. And those lashes! This look is perfect for dancing, making the top go swish-swish to the music, but maybe not ideal for a restaurant. The strings would get tangled in your lap. Well, maybe professional model Emily Ratajkowski wouldn't have this problem. But I would.

"Wow. Wow. Wow." commented Queer Eye’s style expert, Tan France.

We couldn't talk about these big curtain bangs and voluminous, long layers without going there: the twee comeback. Oh, yes, that retro, gamine style of fashion from the early 2010s has swept social media (TikTok, particularly) once again — and I have to say it: Ratajkowski's new haircut is peak twee. If you ask me, it's giving a whole lot of Zooey Deschanel in 500 Days of Summer, the most twee film to ever twee, starring the most twee woman to ever twee.
