The Staatsoper Berlin has announced a cast change for “Ariadne auf Naxos.”

The company noted that Gabriela Scherer will take over the title role for performances on Jan 20 and 22, 2022.

Scherer is well-known for her interpretation of Ariadne and has performed the role at the Oper Leipzig and at the Lucerne Festival. She recently made her debut in the title role of “Tosca” at the Theater Dortmund and this season is set to make her role debut as Elsa in a new production of Wagner’s “Lohengrin” at the Oper Leipzig.

The soprano will join a cast that includes Max Urlacher, Arttu Kataja, Marina Prudenskaya, Vincent Wolfsteiner, and Hila Fahima. Thomas Guggeis conducts the production by Hans Neuenfels.

The final performance on Jan. 29, 2022 will see the return of Anna Samuil in the title role.
