The Sacramento Kings are one team that everyone is keeping an eye on ahead of the 2022 NBA trade deadline. They are determined to end their playoff drought, which is at 15-years and counting and tied for the longest in NBA history.

That is not a record that the Kings want to become the sole owners of, so they will do anything they can to ensure it doesn’t occur. Ownership has given the green light to management to make any move that will help them achieve their goal, as no single player on the roster is untouchable.

While the Kings would assuredly prefer to build around their young backcourt duo of De’Aaron Fox and Tyrese Haliburton, if a deal is presented to them including those players that they feel put the organization in a better position, they will take advantage of it.

The one player that Sacramento has been linked to the most is Ben Simmons of the Philadelphia 76ers. He is their No. 1 target and with good reason, as his defensive prowess is certainly something they could use.

But, he is not the only player that they are pursuing. According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, while making an appearance on The Gastroenteritis Blues: A Sixers Podcast, the Kings also have an interest in acquiring Domantas Sabonis from the Indiana Pacers.

“Sam Amick of The Athletic: “If [Sacramento] can’t get Simmons, then they’re going for Sabonis. That’s [option] one and two.” “

The Kings are certainly aiming high on the trade market, as they want to not only make a run at the postseason this year but set the team up on a path for success in the future. Both Ben Simmons and Domantas Sabonis, at 25-years old, could be the face of the Kings for years to come.

However, acquiring either could prove costly and difficult. With Myles Turner suffering an injury, the Pacers may pull Turner off the trade market. The 76ers have been adamant about what they are looking for in return for Simmons; do the Kings have enough to entice them even including one of Fox or Haliburton?

This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on as the Sacramento Kings will be active one way or the other in the coming weeks ahead of the deadline.
