Today, the Duchess of Cambridge braved the cold London weather in an ensemble that is fast becoming her signature uniform, and one which also very much resonates with how her sister-in-law, the Duchess of Sussex, dresses for official appearances.
Kate was photographed arriving at the Foundling Museum earlier today, wearing a pair of wide-legged trousers with heeled pumps and a classic coat. There is nothing particularly groundbreaking about her workwear-appropriate look of course, but the ensemble is great inspiration for finding an easy-to-wear uniform that you can adopt for smarter occasions.
Wide-legged trousers are a particularly great buy when it comes to your working wardrobe. Kate's black pair is from high-street spot Jigsaw, and the trousers are similar to a navy style she wore for an RAF event in early December, which she attended with husband William. In fact, the duchess is clearly becoming a fan of this type of fit, which is actually something of a departure for Kate, who once favoured super skinny or straight-legged tailored trousers.
It is not difficult to see why wide-legged trousers are becoming more popular, with the super-flattering style helping to lengthen your legs, particularly when you pair them with high heels.
And she may, of course, have been inspired by her sister-in-law Meghan's style.
The Duchess of Sussex made the wide-legged trouser part of her uniform long before she became a member of the royal family, often teaming them with shirts, blazers or, like Kate, a fitted wool coat, and it's a style she still turns to. Most recently, Meghan wore a pair of black wide-legged trousers for an appearance in New York City with Harry last September.
