Neighbours spoilers follow from Wednesday's episode in the UK (January 19), which some Australian viewers may prefer to avoid.

Neighbours has aired an emotional exit for Britney Barnes in the show's latest episode.

Britney, played by Montana Cox, lost her life in the devastating storm disaster that hit Erinsborough on the day of Kyle Canning and Roxy Willis' wedding.

Wednesday's episode on Channel 5 featured a seven-day time jump, as the local residents were seen in mourning following the carnage at the Flamingo Bar.

The identity of who had passed away wasn't immediately clear, but the Ramsay Street residents were later seen attending a memorial service for Britney.

Flashbacks then showed Leo Tanaka (Tim Kano) finding Britney dead in the debris after a telegraph pole had crashed into the Flamingo Bar during the storm, endangering the guests at Kyle and Roxy's wedding reception.

Leo and Britney's baby daughter Abigail survived the incident, meaning that a grief-stricken Leo is now a single parent.

Britney made her first appearance on Neighbours in September last year, when Montana took on the role as a guest.

Her demise had been teased since December, when a Neighbours promo offered a first look at the memorial service.

Meanwhile, Wednesday's episode also saw Terese Willis (Rebekah Elmaloglou) confide in Chloe Brennan (April Rose Pengilly) about how she blamed herself for Britney's death.

Shortly before the accident, Terese had received an alert to evacuate the Flamingo Bar as a precaution due to the storm. However, she got momentarily distracted and her arrival at the scene was delayed.

Flashbacks showed the full story behind this mystery, as Terese had spotted her love interest Glen Donnelly (Richard Huggett) in another romantic moment with Sharon Canning (Natasha Herbert) outside Lassiters and became jealous.

Surveying the wreckage outside the destroyed Flamingo Bar, Terese told Chloe: "If only I'd ignored Glen and Sharon and come straight here, I would have had time to get everyone out."

Chloe replied: "We're talking about a minute of time at the most. Even if you had come straight here, by the time you'd rounded everyone up, it still would have been too late."

Terese disagreed: "Chloe, our family and friends were hurt and Britney died, because I was jealous."

In the fallout, Terese decided that it was time to move on from her feelings for Glen and focus on her estranged husband Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis), who's facing a tough recovery process after getting injured during the storm.

After Paul was discharged from hospital, Terese arrived at his penthouse and announced that she was moving in to take care of him. Is there still hope for their future as a couple?

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 6pm on Channel 5 (UK) and Mondays to Thursdays at 6.30pm on 10 Peach (Australia).
