Comic Rodia plays Foxwoods Saturday and Sunday

On the bio page of comic Anthony Rodia's website, he guarantees that attendees to his shows "will leave with stomach pains and tears in your eyes from laughter."

I think I understand what Rodia's suggesting — sort of a derivation on lyrics from the jingle for the "Felix the Cat" cartoon show that says viewers will laugh so hard their sides will ache. Still, at my age, I no longer want my stomach to hurt and, given the last five years, I'm weary of weeping.

I do think it's fair to say Rodia's old school brand of observational comedy — riffs on marriage, day-to-day annoyances and life in an Italian-American family — works quite well despite the familiar topics, particularly in these vicious times. Bring tissues and Pepto Bismol when you see him Saturday or Sunday in Foxwoods's Great Cedar Showroom.

Anthony Rodia, 8 p.m. Sat. and 6 p.m. Sun., Great Cedar Showroom, Foxwoods; $47; www.foxwoods.com.
