Best BBC show of all time. One Show vote.

The One Show has created a poll, where viewers can vote 3 times for their favourite BBC shows. There are 50 options from Dads Army, Only fools, Life on Earth, Gavin and Stacey, Generation Game etc etc. I've attached the link below.

Anyway I think it's an interesting discussion point, what you would vote, what should be on the list and what you think will win.

I personally think Jonathan Creek should be on the list. I know it's just a poll, but questioning if I vote nostalgically for Generation Game or perhaps Blue Peter. Or what I think deserves the accolade, such as an Attenborough series. But then Line of Duty is an all time favourite now, so surely that should get my vote. That's ignoring the comedies which should get a vote. I think One Foot in the Grave will get a vote.

I'm not sure if it will be a top 3, 10 or maybe just a first place, but I imagine Only Fools and Horses has a good shot of winning, it won't get my vote though.

Link below.

Interesting Keeping Up Appearances & I, Claudius aren’t short listed but Byker Grove is. :smirk:

I guess Doctor Who will win, though it depends on the demographic voting.

Funnily enough I was only reading about I Claudius earlier on Wikipedia, I'm surprised it's never been repeated on BBC 4 or Drama considering the fact it's technically a historical period drama.

The problem with it is it was filmed in tv centre and looks like crud by modern standards. The acting is amazing though.

For a show that shattered a cozy image of how life and times once were then Z Cars (62/65) would be very near the top of any great programme list. Would certainly have had it in the list ahead of Dixon of Dock green

I notice Colditz (72/4) isn't in there either

Dixon of Dock Green is an odd inclusion given almost none of it still exists & most of what remains is from the mid 70’s when yer man Dixon looked about 20 years older than the police retirement age.

We could be here all week/month complaining about what isn't on the list, the vast BBC TV library means inevitably many many programmes will be absent. Best focus on what is on the list.

That's fair enough. Shame there are so many turkeys on it though...

At least the One Show isn't on it.

I think it's interesting discussing what shows should be included. Doesn't have to be negative.

I don't know, I saw a clip after the news mentioning the poll. I half expected it to be a vote for most of the years not a day.

I know you can't take these things seriously, but it's a strange selection. Out of the fifty shows, I counted at least 26 that are comedies of some variety, which a) seems a bit disproportionate and b) downright odd in some cases. OFAH and Dad's Army, fair enough. They're not my cup of tea, but it's hard to argue with their 'much loved' status, but Fleabag and The Mighty Boosh? Conversely, I love those shows, but they were very niche and cult and didn't really have mass appeal.

(And who the Hell chose Byker Grove?! :o Not only was it not that great in the first place - I'd have been annoyed if that was there and Grange Hill wasn't - it created the two-headed monster known as Antn'Dec. It should be buried in a vault somewhere, not glorified ! :D )

I would have thought the ONLY reason Byker Grove is on the list is because of those two unfunny idiots

It was shown on.uk Gold in.90s Minus the controversial scene which caused one biggest shocks at time that is , in fact In 70s think they had more complaints over it then anything else

These polls don't really mean that much to me, but it was easy to vote so hey, why not! Plenty of stuff on there I've enjoyed, but off the cuff...

...went for Doctor Who, Hancock's Half Hour and Yes, Minister.

Yeah, I'm also thinking OFAH will come out on top. And Dad's Army will be up there. Fair enough, they're both great!

I may destroy you seemed an odd inclusion. It was OK, but nothing over and above other dramas.

I voted for TOTP and Blackadder. We actually need something like TOTP back so that us olds can know what the kids are listening to...

    Suspect that OFAH will win.
Seemed like a slightly odd list. It would have been impossible to incude everything, but I'm surprised there wasn't more drama. Something like Life On Mars, which was regarded as innovative in 2006.
I ended up voting for: Blackadder, Doctor Who and Yes Minister/Yes Prime Minister.

As I said in the other thread (where is that thread btw?) I wish there were other comedies/dramas on that list such as My Family (which as I said is my favourite sitcom and would’ve voted for it if it was on the list), Citizen Khan and Waterloo Road.

Totally subjective so something of a waste time imho.

Agreed that Life on Mars should be on the list and perhaps Spooks. I would of liked Murder in Mind, but I'm not sure how regarded this was. An all time favourite of mine though.

I voted Line of Duty, Generation Game and One foot in the grave. Basically my favourite drama, comedy and Generation Game got my vote as it's a show my family got excited for on Saturday nights.
