A woman out of Magoffin County is now in jail after she allegedly tried to stab a police officer.

This past Friday, a sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to the home of 49-year-old Elizabeth Reed, of Salyersville, over a complaint that she was cooking meth inside of the residence.

Upon the officer’s arrival, he heard a woman screaming and saw smoke coming from the kitchen of the home, so he went inside. Once he entered the home, he saw a black, charred material on the stove and throughout the rest of the home. He also noticed two cookers boiling over.

It was then that Reed is said to have appeared with a butcher’s knife, and allegedly began swinging it at the officer. The deputy then pulled his gun and convinced the woman to drop the knife. Reed is said to have then picked up a piece of broken glass and allegedly began to swing that at the officer as well.

Reed was arrested on two counts of wanton endangerment alongside other charges. She is currently being held at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.
